Grown Ups 2 is the sequel to Grown Ups which stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Selma Hayek, Kevin James and Maya Ruldolph, as well as other funny people. The first movie was about a group of men who reunite with their families to attend the funeral of their childhood coach. They all go to their hometown where they grew up and learn about each other and goof off. In this movie, the families decide to move back to their hometown to raise their families.
Adam Sandler plays Lenny Feder who is the leader of the group. In the first movie, he is a Hollywood Talent Agent but has since quit his job. He is married to Roxanne Chase (Selma Hayek) who is a fashion designer and the pair has three children. In Grown Ups 2, Lenny is dealing with his childhood bully played by Steve Austin. He wants to set a good example to his son who is being bullied.
Kurt MCkenzie (Chris Rock) is married to Deanne (Maya Ruldolph). He is a stay at home dad. In the movie, it is the couple’s wedding anniversary which Deanne has forgotten. Kurt is also dismayed to hear that his daughter is going on a date with Bumpty who he believes is an idiot.
Kevin James stars as Eric Lamonsoff who spends too much time at his mother’s house instead of with his family. His wife Sally praises her children even when they are wrong which causes frustration for Eric.
Marcus Higgins (David Spade) is a womanizer who discovers he has a son who is a violent teenager.
|The frat boys|
The story is weaker than the previous movie, it involves the group coming against a fraternity over the use of a swimming hole. The fight between the fraternity and towns people is the highlight of the movie for me. The movie also features a series of shenanigans that are silly and crude. It’s all about a couple of immature guys who burp, fart and play pranks on each other. They do love each other and support each other through their issues.
|The town fight|
In the movie, there is also an assortment of odd balls which is standard for Adam Sandler films. Despite their kookiness, the town people are endearing in their own way. I thought the movie was not as funny as the original and the first one had a better story. You don’t have to watch the first movie to understand the second film because their back stories are not important and it’s a silly comedy.
